"Marvellous," he said. "Absolutely marvellous"

Snovember 2024

28 November 2024 | Life

It snowed! First of the winter, massive excitement in the household. The other big news this month was Trump’s second Presidential election victory, and his unexpected margin over Kamala Harris. Pretty depressing stuff for those of us who would rather not have a convicted criminal with his finger on the button. I can’t fail to see any outcome other than a car crash but time will tell.

I met up with some old school mates at Ewood Park for a disappointing but not unexpected Rovers loss to Sheffield United. Bad footy, but great to see the lads. Amazing how the years tick by relentlessly, yet you always feel 17 alongside your teen-era friends.

My lad and I helped build the local Scouts bonfire for the 5th November celebrations; the long spell of dry weather resulted in it going up like a raging inferno which of course the kids absolutely loved. The primordial joy of a fire at night is such a deep-seated feeling.

Our daughter had an ensemble role in the local amateur performance of West Side Story, which really exceeded my expectations. I hadn’t been to one of their shows before (not my kind of thing) but the acting, singing, lighting, sets, and entire production was really top notch. Very proud of her and the gang.

The snow was great fun. Two decent drops, the second in particular was lovely as completely unexpected and we had a terrific morning building (half) an igloo, and then up to the local golf course for some sledging.
