"Marvellous," he said. "Absolutely marvellous"

Act Of Oblivion

Another Robert Harris historical thriller; set in the mid-1600s it follows the hunt for two fugitives wanted for their involvement in the execution of Charles I.

These regicides have fled to America and are bring tracked by an obsessive loyalist to the late King. As ever with Harris much of the story is based on real events, with only a few fictional characters thrown in.

its a decent read but not as compelling for me as some of his other works – partly due to the real events being largely hiding in cellar and attics for literally years, with only the bible for entertainment.

The brutality of the era’s approach to trial and punishment is vivid The demonstration of how every possible justification, prediction, and explanation can be seen in an interpretation of bible – even when contradictory – feels like a gentle dig from Harris.
