"Marvellous," he said. "Absolutely marvellous"

Project Hail Mary

This has been sat on the shelf for ages, and I finally picked it up to ensure I read the novel before watching the film. Why did I wait so long!

It’s a terrific story; the science aspects are so terrific you forgive the cheesy dialogue, even accept it as a style. The thought behind the core concept, and how this drives the main plot, and various sub-plots is just fantastic.

As with The Martian, it’s focussed on one scientifically-minded individual coming up with creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems. The book flips back and forth in time, as we share memories with the lead character as his amnesia slowly improves.

The pacing, humour, and ingenuity are beautifully combined into a real page-turner. Andy Weir nailed it again.
