The Game-Set-Match trilogy introduced me to Len Deighton and SS-GB was my first exploration of his other fiction; turned out to be an excellent choice.
An alternative historical fiction, it is based in a 1941 world where the Nazis won the Battle of Britain and control large swathes of the UK including London.
A murder mystery sits at its heart, but the story rapidly expands into internal political chicanery between the competing German powers, and also the efforts of the British resistance.
Unlike many works of this type it actually accelerates and deepens throughout the book; the plotting is typical of Deighton in its intricacy, and the occupied nature of England is gloomy, dark, and terrifying
Loved it; definitely going to read more of his catalogue, and very keen to try some of his non-fiction.
