The third book in the Artemis Proctor series, and this time a classic mole hunt with strong nods to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
It’s not as good as Le Carre, but then again who is? A suspected double agent at the top of the CIA leads to a covert hunt that gets messier and messier. It does feel at times that action scenes are ramped up in anticipation of the film rights; whatever the reason, this spy tale is not subtle.
Enjoyable stuff though and given McCloskey’s CIA background and connections it does feel like a insight into some of the methodologies of modern spycraft.
